This is a real Rare Malts edition: a 25-year-old single malt whisky from the Glenlochy Distillery, which closed in 1983. Apart from the high ratings, not much is left of their whisky legacy, which is not too large. But there is this bottle! (62.2%)
In 1985, Highland distillery Glenury Royal closed permanently. Before and after, relatively few bottlings of their single malt whisky were released, but they almost always scored very high. This also applies to this 29-year-old Rare Malts edition. (57%)
Next to Highland distillery Glen Ord there is a malting house for regional barley. This supplies the malt from which the Glen Ord single malt whisky is distilled. In 1997, a 23-year-old bottling of that whisky appeared in the Rare Malts Selection. (59.8%)
The name Port Ellen still makes many whisky hearts jump. The single malt whisky from the Islay distillery was (and is) highly rated. In 1983, Port Ellen closed to continue as a malt house. This Rare Malts-edition is 22 years old, at 60.5% cask strength.
Royal Brackla played a major role in the 'invention' of blended whisky, but as a producer of single malt whisky, it has always remained somewhat in the background. This 20-year-old Rare Malts bottling from 1998 puts the Highlander in the spotlight. 59.8%
The roots of what was called Hillside Distillery from 1965 to 1980 go back to 1898. After 1989, the distillery continued as Glen Esk. It is now closed. This is your chance to get yourself a Hillside single malt whisky! (vintage 1971, 25 years, 62%)
New bottlings of Glen Albyn single malt whisky, the distillery of which closed in 1983, will hardly be released anymore. That's why this 26-year-old Rare Malts bottling from 2002 is worth attention alone. A Highlander with a character of its own. (54.8%)
A 22-year-old, high-scoring Dailuaine single malt whisky from 1973, bottled in 1996 as a Rare Malts edition for the American market. Despite twenty years of aging in wood, it has retained much of its strength, with an astonishing cask strength of 60.92%.
From the 1990s to 2017, producer Diageo presented whiskies from their distilleries that hardly released bottlings or were already closed. This is a 22-year-old Craigellachie single malt with vintage 1973. The distillery released no bottlings itself then.
The name Coleburn, in relation to single malt whisky, no longer means much to many people. The Speyside Distillery closed in 1985 and there have never appeared many bottlings of their whisky. That makes this 21-year-old Rare Malts edition unique! (59.4%)
This Clynelish single malt whisky scores almost 91 points in Whiskybase. With its 1974 vintage and 23 years of maturation, it is a special bottling, released in 1998 as a Rare Malts Selection. It is hard to find anymore, but you can get it from us! 59.1%
You can find distillery bottlings of Cardhu single malt whisky in most liquor stores, but bottlings like this... This is a real collector's item: the Speysider was vatted in 1973. After 27 years of maturation, it was bottled at a cask strength of 60.2%.
Like Oloroso casks, Amontillado casks are popular sherry casks for maturing or finishing whisky. Amontillado maturation produces notes like hazelnut, blackcurrant and caramel, notes that you will find in this 9-year-old Glenallachie single malt. (48%)
This new Limited Edition bottling in the Wood Collection series from Speyside distillery Glenallachie is finished in Fino sherry casks. Fino is the driest of all types of sherry. That gives this 9-year-old single malt whisky salty and almond notes. (48%)
Coffee beans, honeycomb, raisins, apricots, ginger, dark chocolate, mocha, marzipan, cinnamon, red and candied fruit, butterscotch and many more notes can be found in this 9-year-old Glenallachie single malt whisky, finished in Oloroso casks. (48%)
Under the Mac-Talla banner, Morrison Scotch Whiskey Distillers releases peated single malt whisky from unnamed distilleries on Islay. Here they come with a beautifully sherried whisky that matured in Oloroso casks for, as some say, 7 years. (54.8%)
Here comes bottler James Eadie in his Small Batch series with a young (8 years old) and, therefore, affordable Ben Nevis single malt whisky. The Highlander matured in two bourbon casks, one 'first fill', the other 'refill', and was bottled at 46%.
A Small Batch bottling from James Eadie of a 9-year-old Benrinnes single malt whisky. The whisky matured in bourbon casks and was bottled at 46%. A fruity nose with grapes and apple, and then notes of vanilla, pastry and orchard fruit. For a nice price.
Aultmore, like other Speyside distilleries, mainly supplies its malt whisky to the blending industry. Fortunately, independent bottlers always ensure that we can taste Aultmore's single malt. This bottling is 10 years old and bourbon-matured. (46%)
This single malt whisky was specially selected for the Dutch market by the Kavalan Distillery. The whisky matured for 8 (long, because Taiwanese) years in a bourbon cask and was bottled at cask strength (51.6%). Tropical fruit, honey, vanilla and coconut.
This time, bottler Signatory Vintage has released an unpeated, so to speak the standard version of a single malt whisky from Islay distillery Bunnahabhain. The 'Bunna' matured for 11 years in Oloroso sherry casks and was bottled in 2024 at 48.2%.
This Caol Ila bottling from Signatory Vintage is nicely priced because it was released in the Small Batch series. The peated single malt whisky aged for 10 years in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks and is bottled at 48.2%, the standard for this series.
We don't see much Aberlour single malt whisky as an independent bottling anymore, but here is one, released in Signatory Vintage's very affordable Small Batch series. The 12-year-old malt matured in Oloroso sherry casks and was bottled at 48.2%.
In general, single grain whisky only becomes interesting after several decades of maturation. So that's a good thing with this North British edition: the grain whisky matured for 32 years in a bourbon cask before being bottled by Brachadair at 43.1%.
