Under the Mac-Talla banner, Morrison Scotch Whiskey Distillers releases peated single malt whisky from unnamed distilleries on Islay. Here they come with a beautifully sherried whisky that matured in Oloroso casks for, as some say, 7 years. (54.8%)
Here comes bottler James Eadie in his Small Batch series with a young (8 years old) and, therefore, affordable Ben Nevis single malt whisky. The Highlander matured in two bourbon casks, one 'first fill', the other 'refill', and was bottled at 46%.
A Small Batch bottling from James Eadie of a 9-year-old Benrinnes single malt whisky. The whisky matured in bourbon casks and was bottled at 46%. A fruity nose with grapes and apple, and then notes of vanilla, pastry and orchard fruit. For a nice price.
Aultmore, like other Speyside distilleries, mainly supplies its malt whisky to the blending industry. Fortunately, independent bottlers always ensure that we can taste Aultmore's single malt. This bottling is 10 years old and bourbon-matured. (46%)
Not as complex as decades-old single-grain whisky, but this fresh, light, 14-year-old North British drinks smoothly; a perfect dram for an evening with friends. You can get this SV bottling for a surprisingly low price. (bottled at 46%)
This single malt whisky was specially selected for the Dutch market by the Kavalan Distillery. The whisky matured for 8 (long, because Taiwanese) years in a bourbon cask and was bottled at cask strength (51.6%). Tropical fruit, honey, vanilla and coconut.
This time, bottler Signatory Vintage has released an unpeated, so to speak the standard version of a single malt whisky from Islay distillery Bunnahabhain. The 'Bunna' matured for 11 years in Oloroso sherry casks and was bottled in 2024 at 48.2%.
This Caol Ila bottling from Signatory Vintage is nicely priced because it was released in the Small Batch series. The peated single malt whisky aged for 10 years in bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks and is bottled at 48.2%, the standard for this series.
We don't see much Aberlour single malt whisky as an independent bottling anymore, but here is one, released in Signatory Vintage's very affordable Small Batch series. The 12-year-old malt matured in Oloroso sherry casks and was bottled at 48.2%.
In general, single grain whisky only becomes interesting after several decades of maturation. So that's a good thing with this North British edition: the grain whisky matured for 32 years in a bourbon cask before being bottled by Brachadair at 43.1%.
Ámbar, amber, is the name of this Tamdhu bottling, and that undoubtedly refers to the colour of this 14-year-old single malt whisky, caused by maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. The whisky, in the characteristic Tamdhu bottles, is bottled at 43%.
And yet another special WhiskySponge bottling: it is a 34-year-old Bladnoch single malt whisky that matured in a bourbon cask from which the bottler had already extracted 50 bottles in 2023. This created more room for flavour-inducing reactions. (55.1%)
This is one of the first bottlings from the Nc'Nean Distillery in the Western Highlands. Batch 4 of the Organic Single Malt whisky, in a beautifully decorated bottle. The young malt offers a rich palette of flavours with maritime notes in the background.
This is the 2nd batch in the Organic Single Malt series by the Nc'Nean Distillery that started in 2017. The sustainably produced whisky aged for 3 years in bourbon and re-charred red wine casks. A promising whisky, young as it is. (released in 2020,46%)
There's bourbon and there's bourbon. Well, this Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey from Elijah Craig is one to pay attention to! It was released in 2015 as the 7th edition in the Barrel Proof series after 12 years of maturation and at 64% cask strength!
We didn't have many World Whiskies from bottler Cadenhead's in the shop yet, so pay attention! This is a whisky from America, a bourbon from Heaven Hill Distilleries. The bourbon matured for no less than 23 years in an American oak barrel. (54.5% ABV)
Subtly balanced and with a complex palette of flavours and aromas, that is how this Longrow, the Campbeltonian peated single malt, is characterized. It was bottled in 2019 for the Belgian market after 17 years of maturation in a sherry cask. (49.7%)
A true classic in the world of sherried single malt whisky, the Aberlour A'bunadh. This is the 80th batch already. Matured in Oloroso-sherry casks and at a cask strength of 61.0%, this is a fine whisky for long summer evenings
And yet another strongly sherried Edradour single malt whisky from bottler Van Wees. And again in their Cask Strength series. This malt from the Southern Highlands aged for 9 years in an active sherry cask and is bottled at 58.9%.
We don't have enough space to explain here why the name Whitlaw hides the single malt whisky of Highland Park, but that's what it is: 10 years old and matured in first and second-fill Oloroso casks, bottled at 46 %, for a reasonable price.
An excellent dram for Easter, but actually also for any other day: the Easter Edition 2013 from Glenfarclas. The single malt whisky matured for about 10 years in sherry casks (Glenfarclas, of course) and was released in an edition of 3000 bottles. (46%)
The Springbank Distillery still produces whisky from barley to bottling, which is why the single malt whisky is appreciated by many. In 2016, Springbank released this 21-year-old, very high-scoring, sherried single-cask bottling. It is bottled at 47.5%.
To celebrate its 35th anniversary, the Italian quality bottler Samaroli released this almost 30-year-old, sherry-matured Banff single malt whisky in 2003. Banff whisky is already a collector's item, but this Samaroli edition is extra special! (45% ABV)
