Blended malt whisky is a mix of malt whisky from casks of various distilleries. Not to be confused with blended whisky which is a mix of malt and grain whiskies.
Chapter 7 is not only a bottler, but also a blender. This is the 2nd batch in the Prologue series of their Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. Which single malt whiskies are used for this blend and their age is not known. But there's peated malt in it. (47.9%)
A 35-year-old Burnside (or let's say Balvenie, with at most a teaspoon of Glefiddich)! You don't see those often, but here is one: it is a bottling from the German Spheric Spirits of a Burnside, vintage 1989, bourbon-aged and bottled at 52% ABV.
This is one of two great Burnside 1994 bottlings from bottler Le Gus't. For those who don't know: Burnside is Balvenie single malt whisky, formally mixed with a teaspoon of Glenfiddich. This Burnside edition (50.9%) matured for 28 years in a bourbon cask.
For an excellent price, you can get all five Campbeltown single malt whiskies together in one bottle: Springbank, Hazelburn, Longrow, Glen Scotia and Kilkerran! The blend matured in bourbon and sherry casks, resulting in a mild, creamy and rich dram. 46%
Compass Box calls this bottling 'our majestic king'. Matured in sherry and red wine casks, the whisky got a crimson colour. King Crimson. In addition to the colour, the casks also gave the blend intense notes of chocolate, plum jam and red currant. (46%)
This 13-year-old, Oloroso-matured blended malt from Thompson Bros. contains single malt whisky from the Ailsa Bay distillery, a whisky you don't often encounter. We don't know which other malt or malts are in this blend, or how much. (55.3% cask strength)
In the Elements of Islay series, Elixir Distillers now also releases blended malts. Which Islay single malt whiskies are in this blend is unknown. Matured in sherry casks, the blend is given the keywords smoked tea, autumn fruit and winter spices. (54.5%)
New to Elixir Distillers' Elements of Islay series are the Islay blended malt whiskies. Released not in the well-known 50 cl, but in 70 cl bottles. Like this blend of Islay single malt whiskies, that matured in ex-bourbon casks. Bottled at 54.5%.
Well known and appreciated are the Elements of Islay editions from Elixir Distillers with cask strength Islay single malt whiskies. Now they also release blends of Islay single malts in that series. Like this one that aged in bourbon and sherry casks. 46%
A blend of two Islay single malts: the peated Caol Ila and the normally unpeated Bunnahabhain. The whisky matured in heavily charred sherry casks of American and European oak. This resulted in a well-balanced flavour profile. Bottled at 54.5% ABV.
An affordable blended malt scotch whisky, this Flatnöse from The Islay Boys. This bottling is said to contain 7 Speyside and 2 Islay single malts. Slightly smoky, honey, citrus, these are some of the keywords for this small-batch blend. Bottled at 46%.
In 2005, Johnnie Walker introduced its Green Label, a blended malt whisky (so only single malt whiskies, no grain). Producer Diageo stopped producing this Green Label after a few years, but it is now re-released worldwide due to popular demand.
This is truly a unique bottling! This Shackleton's The Discovery Edition from the brand Mackinlay's is a replica of the blended malt whisky that Sir Ernest Shackleton took with him on his famous Antarctic expedition in 1907. Bottled in 2011 at 47.3% ABV.
This Maltage from the Japanese Shinshu Mars distillery is a blend of single malt whiskies. Of course there is a single malt from Shinshu itself. But also Scottish malt. It is a rich, well-balanced, non-complex and pleasantly drinkable whisky.

This North Highland blended malt is a tribute from Thompson Bros to the whisky of the Northern Highlands. It is an 8-year-old blend of Glen Ord and Clynelish single malts, with notes such as orchard fruit, heather honey, and coastal minerality. (44.9%)
Under the Old Perth label, Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers release sherried blended malt whiskies, like this one in 2025. The blend of Scotch malts matured in different kinds of Amontillado casks and is bottled in a limited edition at 55.8% ABV.
As a tribute to Perth, their hometown and the birthplace of whisky blending, Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers released this blended malt whisky. The various single malt whiskies in this blend matured in sherry casks. Bottled at cask strength (58.6%).
There is Caol Ila single malt whisky in this blended malt, and for example Clynelish, Linkwood and Benrinnes. The whisky matured in bourbon, oloroso and French oak casks. This results in a fruity, nicely balanced dram: the Orchard House from Compass Box.

Douglas Laing is known for its blended malt whiskies. Their motto is: 'If a single malt is a violin, then a blended malt is an entire orchestra!'. Well-known are, for example, their Big Peat-blended Islay malts. This is also included in this tasting kit.
