After maturing in a bourbon cask, this 5-year-old single malt whisky from the Dutch Cley Distillery was finished for 2 years in a cask that previously contained a peated malt from the Isle of Mull, resulting in a smoky dram with tropical fruit notes. 53%
About 10 years ago, Isle of Harris Distillers opened its doors on the Scottish island of the same name. Under the brand The Hearach, they now have released about 25 bottlings, including this one. The single malt whisky aged in a 1st-fill Oloroso cask. 46%
Quality bottler Whisky AGE from Taiwan released 233 bottles of the solid Speyside malt Glentauchers. The single malt whisky matured for 15 years in a 1st-fill bourbon barrel before being bottled at a cask strength of 54.6%. A funny label is included.
Always funny, those labels by Whisky AGE, but of course it's about the content of their bottles. And there's nothing wrong with that! Take this Craigellachie single malt whisky: it matured for 15 years in a cask that previously contained Caol Ila. (54.2%)
The whiskies in Decadent Drinks' Equinox & Solstice series are always bottled at the easy drinking strength of 48.5%. That goes also for this Autumn Edition, a Caol Ila single malt whisky that matured for 11 years in an Oloroso European oak cask.
One of the few Islay distilleries that produces an unpeated single malt whisky under its own brand name. This Maltbarn Bruichladdich matured for 21 years in a bourbon cask, from which came 161 bottles at 50.5%.
This is already the 246th bottling of the German Maltbarn, and this edition will also be well-appreciated. It is a single grain whisky from Invergordon, one of the most famous grain distilleries. It is 16 years old, bourbon matured, and at 55.1%.
Bruichladdich's Octomore bottlings are a must for lovers of heavily peated single malt whisky. This 15.1 edition in The Impossible Equation series with its 108.2 ppm, matured for 5 years in re-charred bourbon casks. It is bottled at 59.1% cask strength.
If you want to taste an Irish single pot still whiskey at cask strength, this 12 year old Redbreast is an option. Aged in bourbon and sherry casks. Pot still whiskey is made from barley malt and unmalted barley. This batch is at 57.2% cask strength.
Rarely do we have new make spirit on offer, the liquid straight from the still that is supposed to become whisky, but this Dubhghlas Peatsieis one! From the quirky, young distillery of a Dutch sailor couple. A delicious, peated spirit. (63.35% ABV)
The label shows that this is an older bottling from Gordon & MacPhail, but we don't know precisely from when. What we do know is that it is a Linkwood single malt whisky and that it has matured for 15 years. Now this will be a unique bottle. (40%)
The Glenlivet Nàdurra (nature) bottlings are appreciated by many. For example, this edition from 2013 has a score of over 87 at whiskybase.com. The Speyside single malt whisky matured for 16 years in a first-fill bourbon cask and was bottled at 56.1% ABV.
The creative blender Compass Box released in 2013 its second The Peat Monster. It is again a balanced combination of single malt whiskies and casks in which they matured. In this smoky monster, you will find various peated single malt whiskies (46%)
The Small Batch series from Signatory Vintage is very suitable for exploring the world of Scotch whisky, also due to its favourable price. A good example is this Glen Garioch single malt whisky that matured for 12 years in first-fill bourbon casks. 48.2%
Glen Moray Distillery released this edition of their single malt whisky in 2019 as Elgin Curiosity. The small batch bottling from their Cask Finish Project is finished in St. James Rhum Agricole casks. Expect notes of tropical fruit and toffee. (46.3%)
Daddy Rack in Tennessee distils a whisky related to bourbon. But Daddy now has a son, Jimmy Rack, and that is a Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey. Distilled from 95% rye and 5% barley malt, aged in charred oak casks and maple charcoal filtered. (3y, 61.15%)
This Gold Spot Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey celebrates the collaboration of 7 generations of the Mitchell Whisky family and a renowned Irish wine family. The pot still whisky and its finish in Italian sweet wine casks are perfectly matched. (13y, 46%)
This Cley single malt whisky matured for 3 years in a bourbon cask and 1.5 years in a Palo Cortado octave. Palo Cortado is a fairly rare sherry with the fullness of Oloroso and the freshness of Amontillado. You can really taste that in this dram. (52%)
Amrut Distillery states in the subtitle on the label that this is a single malt whisky, but it is called Rye. And that is what it is: an Indian whisky in American style distilled from European rye! It is matured in new American oak casks. Curious? (50%)
A new Ardnamurchan Cask Strength Release, the AD/03.24! This edition is distilled from 87% peated and 13% unpeated barley malt, and the single malt whisky was matured mostly (90%) in bourbon casks and the rest in sherry casks. Bottled at 58.3% ABV.
In 2002, the Speyside distillery Caperdonich closed; this Cadenhead's bottling dates from long before that. Sometime in the 1980s, this 17-year-old Speyside single malt appeared on the Italian market in a 75cl Dumpy Bottle. (bottled at 45.7% ABV)
