Single malt whisky is a mixture of malt whisky from casks of the same distillery. Malt whisky is made from barley malt and distilled in pot stills, and has matured for at least 3 years in oak barrels. This whisky usually has a for the distillery characteristic flavor. Is considered the classic whisky.
You don't often come across whisky from the Glen Spey Distillery, founded in 1878, as a single malt bottling; you find it mainly in blends. Fortunately, there are bottlings like this Spirit of Scotland: an 11-year-old, bourbon-aged Glen Spey. (57.4% ABV)
A very affordable Glen Spey that will certainly appeal to lovers of sherry matured whisky! The 9-year-old Speyside single malt whisky matured in a first-fill Oloroso cask. Chocolate, dark fruit, figs, raisins, leather, cinnamon and nutmeg. (57.1% ABV)
Like Oloroso casks, Amontillado casks are popular sherry casks for maturing or finishing whisky. Amontillado maturation produces notes like hazelnut, blackcurrant and caramel, notes that you will find in this 9-year-old Glenallachie single malt. (48%)
This new Limited Edition bottling in the Wood Collection series from Speyside distillery Glenallachie is finished in Fino sherry casks. Fino is the driest of all types of sherry. That gives this 9-year-old single malt whisky salty and almond notes. (48%)

That this single malt whisky has matured in a sherry cask is clearly visible in the color. This GlenAllachie was in that cask for 12 years before it was bottled by Whisky Import Nederland at a cask strength of 57.8%. For those who like a sherried dram.
This is the 8th edition in bottler Signatory Vintage's new, affordable Small Batch series. It is an 11 year old Glenallachie single malt whisky. The Speysider matured in Oloroso sherry casks and was bottled at the Small Batch standard of 48.2%.
This 12-year-old single malt whisky was released in 2025 as part of The Master Blender's European Collection from Glenallachie. Quite remarkable: the Speysider matured the entire period in a European virgin oak cask. It is bottled at a very robust 61.7%!

Glencadam was founded two centuries ago in the East Highlands, but until the early 2000s, there wasn't a single distillery bottling. Now, however, there are several, such as this 15-year-old, bourbon-matured single malt. Now with a new label. (46% ABV)
The 18-year-old version is one of the core bottlings from Highland distillery Glencadam. The single malt whisky matured in carefully selected ex-bourbon casks. Smooth and pleasant to drink, with fruity notes and notes like vanilla and nutmeg. (46%)
In 2013, the two-century-old Highland distillery Glencadam bottled a limited edition of this Reserva de Jerez, a 15-year-old single malt whisky, finished in Oloroso sherry casks. An easy-drinking dram, intense and with an oily mouthfeel. (46% ABV)
How long this whisky matured is unknown, but we do know it was finished in white port casks, which is quite rare. This single malt from the two-century-old Glencadam Distillery in the East Highlands was bottled in 2023 at 46% ABV.
It is nice to know that this is a bottling from 2013 and that it was released especially for the Dutch market at the time, but the special thing about this Glendronach single malt whisky is that it matured in bourbon and Tawny port casks. (46%)
