Single malt whisky is a mixture of malt whisky from casks of the same distillery. Malt whisky is made from barley malt and distilled in pot stills, and has matured for at least 3 years in oak barrels. This whisky usually has a for the distillery characteristic flavor. Is considered the classic whisky.
The Lochside Distillery closed in 1992 after only about 35 years in operation, but in that short time, their single malt whisky had built up a very good name. This bottling (17 years, 46%) from 2008 can now be called a collector's item, so, be quick!
Fifteen years ago, renowned bottler Alambic Classique released this Longmorn single malt whisky. The highly regarded Speysider matured for 11 years in a refill bourbon cask and was released in 155 bottles at a cask strength of 51.8% ABV.
Dutch bottler Van Wees released this 15-year-old Longmorn single malt whisky in their series The Ultimate-Cask Strength. The whisky aged on a bourbon cask. This dram has fruity Longmorn notes, vanilla and honey from the cask, and feels oily in the mouth.
The label is probably something for insiders, but the whisky inside is interesting for anyone who enjoys single malt whisky. Maltbarn bottled a Longmorn after it had matured in a sherry cask for 16 years, and bottled the Speysider at 53.4% cask strength
Subtly balanced and with a complex palette of flavours and aromas, that is how this Longrow, the Campbeltonian peated single malt, is characterized. It was bottled in 2019 for the Belgian market after 17 years of maturation in a sherry cask. (49.7%)

In 2019, this Longrow was bottled especially for the members of the Springbank Society (Springbank is the distillery of Longrow single malt whisky). The malt matured for 11 years in re-charred sherry casks and is bottled at a cask strength of 56.9% ABV.

In 2022, Mark & Kate Watt bottled this single malt whisky from the young Israeli M&H Whisky Distillery under the Watt Whisky label. The whisky had matured for 3 years in a shaved and then re-charred bourbon cask and was bottled at 57.1% cask strength.
A lot of discussion is going on about the distillery that supplied the whisky. It is a bottling from the Mac Talla series, the newest line by the Morrison family. Especially for Islay whiskies. This edition is called Mara (= Sea). Expect maritime notes!

This single malt whisky from Macallan matured for 12 years on 'Sherry Seasoned American & European Oak'. This is a good example of a modern-style Macallan: less complex and with less emphasis on 'sherry' than the classic drams of this brand. Curious?
