A distillery bottling is a bottling by the whisky distillery itself. We also call this 'original brand' bottling or OB. Until the 1970s, there were only 12 distillers in Scotland who released original brands. The whisky from the other distillers that did not disappear into the blends was bottled by independent bottlers.
Almost all distillers now have their own bottlings. This can be standard bottlings that always come in standard quality, or special bottlings in a limited edition. Sometimes even single-cask releases are involved.
But in addition to the OB's, there still appear independent bottlings (IB) from all distilleries.
This Glenallachie single malt is really a whisky for at the fireplace. It matured for 12 years in a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask, from which it was bottled at a solid 61%. A dram to enjoy while sipping. It was specially bottled for the Netherlands.
In 2012, this special Laphroaig single malt whisky appeared in an edition of 3000 bottles at the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth. The 18 year old peated Islay malt is creamy and has a complex palette of flavors that are nicely balanced. (48%)
This Craigellachie single malt whisky was bottled a while ago. It is a bottling in the Flora & Fauna series with which a number of Scottish distilleries present themselves. This bottle is a good introduction to Speysider Craigellachie. 43%
A great bottle to get acquainted with the Paul John single malt whisky from the Indian John Distilleries. The Nirvana takes you along the versatile Paul John spectrum of scents and flavors in the non-peated version. At 40% a dram for everyone.
This 5-year-old Kilkerran, matured in Oloroso sherry casks, was one of the whiskies featured in the Online Tasting Week organized by Glengyle Distillery in 2021. A sturdy single malt-whisky for its age, well-peated and full of flavour. (58.2% ABV)
The young Speyside distillery Ballindalloch bottled this over 8-year-old Vintage single malt whisky in a small edition, especially for the Benelux. It matured in bourbon and sherry casks and was bottled at 48.5%. A great option to get to know this newby!
Something different from the well-known Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey. This is a blend of American malt, rye whiskey, and that bourbon-like Tennessee whiskey. The blend matured for 4 years in charred American oak barrels in a certified warehouse. (50%)
Longrow is the most peated single malt whisky from the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown. This is a special Longrow: the malt matured for 23 years in a former rum cask and was then bottled in only 204 bottles at 42% cask strength. So, be quick!
Without much fanfare, Ben Nevis Distillery has redesigned its labels and revamped its range of standard bottlings. This Core Leis is an example of that: an 'entry level' NAS (8 to 10 years?) single malt whisky matured in 1st-fill bourbon casks. (46%)
This is the 2021 edition of a 25 year old Laphroaig single malt whisky at cask strength. These bottlings of the firmly peated Islay malt always score very well. Due to their age, the smoky character is somewhat milder. Matured in bourbon casks and at 51.9
A new smoky single malt whisky from the BenRiach Distillery. This The Smoky Ten matured for 10 years (naturally) in three types of casks: bourbon, rum and new oak. In addition to smoke, this malt also contains notes of summer-ripe fruit, pear and honey.
A nice entry-level malt, this Ardmore. In the nose you will find notes of toffee, honey, vanilla and a little smoke. That smoke comes back firmly in the taste. A friendly price tag is attached to this on quarter cask finished Highlander. At 40%

In a small batch and at a cask strength of 53.5%, this 19-year-old Ballechin, the peated Edradour version, was bottled in July 2023. The single malt whisky matured in two large Madeira casks that yielded a total of 1323 bottles. A malt that makes curious.
This Cairdeas is the bottling with which the Laphroaig Distillery celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2015, especially for the Friends of Laphroaig (cairdeas = friendship). Matured in bourbon casks, bottled at cask strength, this is a real dram to enjoy.
After 2019 we have not seen any bottlings of the Ardbeg Supernova. Fortunately, there are now a handful in the shop again, including this bottling from 2010. You can recognize the greasy smoke, the ash, the meaty notes in this single malt whisky. (60.1%)
This Balblair single malt whisky aged for 15 years in bourbon and sherry casks. In its role as one of the core bottlings of the Highland distillery, it is nicely balanced between light and exotic fruit, with notes of chocolate, raisins and toffee. (46%)
For this money perhaps the best blended whisky that can be found! If the cheaper blends quickly give an watery, flat impression, this Highland Queen is quite full of aroma and taste and can compete with some sherried single malts. A real bargain!
If you want to try an Irish single grain whiskey, one that is aged on bourbon, and finished on sherry and then at a reasonable price: here is the Glendalough Double Barrel. Light, pleasant to drink, but also complex. Something different!
