Strength

A distillery bottling is a bottling by the whisky distillery itself. We also call this 'original brand' bottling or OB. Until the 1970s, there were only 12 distillers in Scotland who released original brands. The whisky from the other distillers that did not disappear into the blends was bottled by independent bottlers.
Almost all distillers now have their own bottlings. This can be standard bottlings that always come in standard quality, or special bottlings in a limited edition. Sometimes even single-cask releases are involved.
But in addition to the OB's, there still appear independent bottlings (IB) from all distilleries.

Glenfarclas 12-year-old - 100 cl

Speyside distillery Glenfarclas is known for its bottlings that matured on sherry casks. A good example is this 12 year old with its full taste and notes of light and dark fruit and sherry. In a liter bottle. At 43%.

Benromach Organic

Bottler Gordon & MacPhail saved the then-closed Benromach Distillery from oblivion by purchasing it in 1993. Often unusual bottlings followed that made the brand known, such as this bourbon-aged single malt whisky distilled from organic barley. (43%)

Glenfarclas 2013 - Easter Edition 2024

An excellent dram for Easter, but actually also for any other day: the Easter Edition 2013 from Glenfarclas. The single malt whisky matured for about 10 years in sherry casks (Glenfarclas, of course) and was released in an edition of 3000 bottles. (46%)

Ardbeg Wee Beastie

The Wee Beastie bottling is the latest standard edition from Ardbeg. This single malt whisky matured for 5 years in bourbon and sherry casks. Despite being young, the Wee Beastie has complex aromas and notes, a full mouthfeel and a long finish. (47.4%)

Laphroaig 25-year-old - 2021 edition 51.9%

This is the 2021 edition of a 25 year old Laphroaig single malt whisky at cask strength. These bottlings of the firmly peated Islay malt always score very well. Due to their age, the smoky character is somewhat milder. Matured in bourbon casks and at 51.9

High West Rendezvous Rye

This is no 'normal' rye whiskey that the High West Distillery releases, this is a blend of straight rye whiskeys. And you don't see that often! You really can taste from this bottling that High West was awarded as best distillery in America in 2016. (46%)

Elijah Craig Small Batch - New bottle

This Elijah Craig bourbon whiskey is a Small Batch release. The small batch process provides a more balanced and smooth whiskey. This pleasant, warm bourbon from the Heaven Hill family matured in charred oak barrels and has an ABV of 47%.

Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Woodford Reserve is one of the oldest distilleries in Kentucky and still produces according to tradition. With this bottling, the straight bourbon whiskey has undergone a second maturation on a different 'white oak' barrel. For an extra rich taste.

Glengoyne 12-year-old

If you're looking for an everyday single malt whisky, one that never bores and is affordable, then this could be it: the Glengoyne 12, Unhurried Since 1833. New label and box style and, more importantly, matured in various types of cask. Bottled at 43%.

Knappogue Castle 12-year-old - Château Pichon Baron French Oak

This 12-year-old Irish triple distilled single malt whiskey matured in a bourbon cask before it was finished in French oak casks. Casks that previously contained Château Pichon Baron wine, to be precise. An edition of 2100 bottles, filled at 46%.

White Oak Akashi Meisei

A blended whisky from the Japanese distillery Eigashima Shuzo that distilled both the single malt and the grain whisky. In this blend you will find woody and spicy notes, and vanilla, plum liqueur and a hint of wood smoke. Bottled at 40%.

Nikka Coffey Grain

Has nothing to do with coffee, Coffey is the type of still with which this Japanese blended grain whisky is made. That resulted in a fruity, light, pleasantly drinkable dram, a whisky for those long summer evenings. Bottled at 45%.

Glendalough Double Barrel

If you want to try an Irish single grain whiskey, one that is aged on bourbon, and finished on sherry and then at a reasonable price: here is the Glendalough Double Barrel. Light, pleasant to drink, but also complex. Something different!

Benromach 2013 - Virgin American Oak

Just as bourbon matures in virgin American oak, so did this Benromach single malt whisky in the Contrasts bottling series. The Speyside malt matured in this oak for 10 years, resulting in a very pleasantly drinkable dram. (46%)

Benromach 2012 Contrasts: Kiln Dried Oak

In the Contrasts series, Benromach has released two bottlings of their virgin oak matured single malt whisky. This bottling matured for 10 years in kiln-dried virgin oak casks: creamy, tropical fruit, lime, apple, sweet barley, menthol, peat smoke. (46%)

Wolfburn 10-year-old

Distilling since 2013 in the far north of Scotland, Wolfburn reached a new milestone with the release of their first batch of 10-year-old whisky. This whisky fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks and is bottled at 46%. Non-chill-filtered and natural color

Ballechin 15-year-old

Edradour is one of the smallest classic Scotch whisky distilleries. By default, they distill unpeated single malt whisky, but under the Ballechin brand they make a firmly peated dram. This one is 15 years old, matured in bourbon and sherry casks. (58.9%)

FEW Immortal Rye

This is a very special rye whiskey from FEW Spirits in Illinois. The traditionally distilled whisky matured for 2 years in charred virgin American oak barrels and was diluted to 46.5% with Oolong tea, with notes such as honey, dragon fruit and peach.

Laphroaig Càirdeas - Feis Ile 2009 Ileach Edition

Special bottlings from the Laphroaig distillery are always the Càirdeas editions. Càirdeas stands for 'friendship'. Most editions are for the annual Feis Ile festival on Islay. This 12 year old single malt whisky is from 2009 and bottled at 57.5%.

Isle of Jura 12-year-old

With 12 years of aging in bourbon barrels, including finishing on oloroso-sherry casks and a strength of 40%, you could call this Isle of Jura single malt whisky for this price a good entry-level dram. Easy to drink, more modest than in your face.

Säntis Malt Dreifaltigkeit - 70cl

Not only that it comes from Switzerland makes this single malt whisky special, but also that it matured in beer casks. And that it has its own unique character, with many smoky notes such as bacon and campfire, meaty and sweet. Complex and easy to drink!

Cardhu 14-year-old Diageo Special Releases 2021

Cardhu was one of the first distilleries to launch its own single malt bottlings in the 1960s. The single malt whisky has since been released in several Diageo Special Releases. The 2021 edition is 14 years old and is finished in red wine casks. (55.5%)

Kentucky Owl Confiscated

Kentucky Owl is a more exclusive bourbon, highly valued on average in, for example, the Whiskybase. Why this Confiscated in 1916 is so called is not immediately clear, but with notes such as gardenia, banana bread, grapes and sourdough, it is special.

Highland Park 12-year-old - Single Cask 974 for Maxxium

Bottled for the Dutch market, this Highland Park single malt whisky. A sturdy, nicely sherryed whisky that needs some time to get balanced, but then you will taste not only tobacco, leather and tea, but also sweet notes such as raisins and chocolate.
