A beautiful Japanese blended whisky at cask strength (51.4%), this Nikka. The single malt and grain whiskies in this blend all come from the own Nikka distilleries. Good balance between malt, grain and cask and complex. A blend to come home with!
Nearly a century and a half ago, the North British grain distillery was built near Edinburgh. Like all grain distilleries, it produces a few bottlings of its own. That's why we're thrilled with this 40-year-old grain whisky from Cadenhead! (51.9% ABV)
In general, single grain whisky only becomes interesting after several decades of maturation. So that's a good thing with this North British edition: the grain whisky matured for 32 years in a bourbon cask before being bottled by Brachadair at 43.1%.
In their very affordable 100 Proof series, Signatory Vintage also releases single grain whiskies. Here, for example, is a 15-year-old North British, a Lowlands grain. The whisky matured in first- and second-fill Oloroso and bourbon casks. (57.1%)
Oban is one of Scotland's oldest, still active distilleries. This 14-year-old standard malt shows the basic character of Oban well: juicy orange, malt, salty and a hint of smoke, oily in the mouth. And that for a reasonable price.
A not very complex, flexible young single malt whisky, this Oban Little Bay. He is reminiscent of Oban's 14-year standard bottling, but is sweeter and more malty. A great dram for everyday life, or for an evening with friends. Nothing wrong with it.
Under the Old Ezra brand, Lux Row Distillers in Kentucky distils whisky using traditional recipes. This is a 7-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon, aged in a charred American oak cask, bottled for the Dutch market. (186 bottles, 58.5%)
This Old Ezra 7 Kentucky straight rye whiskey, a sub-brand of Ezra Brooks, is produced in Indiana for Luxco in Kentucky. The rye whiskey matured for 7 years in charred casks, which is reflected in the nose. Oily, vanilla, rye malt and honey. (50.5%)
At the Ross & Squibb Distillery in Indiana, they distill whiskey according to various recipes for various brands. This 7-year-old Old Ezra is a prime example: a straight rye whiskey that matured in a charred American oak cask. (57.0% ABV)
The label calls the Old Forester the 'first bottled bourbon.' In any case, this Kentucky Straight bourbon whiskey was made as early as 1870. In those days you could also write bourbon whiskey without an 'e'. They still do that with Old Forester. At 43%.
A 0.0 whisky? No, a whisky from Decadent Drinks' Old Orkney series, so O.O. This edition is a 19-year-old Highland Park single malt, the result of combining the contents of 2 bourbon casks into a 3rd, bottled at 52%. A mature yet fresh and vibrant whisky.
Under the Old Perth label, Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers release sherried blended malt whiskies, like this one in 2025. The blend of Scotch malts matured in different kinds of Amontillado casks and is bottled in a limited edition at 55.8% ABV.
The Old Pulteney 12 single malt whisky is pleasantly light and fruity and easy to drink. Because it matured on both bourbon and sherry casks, perhaps a nice entry whisky. And certainly a whisky to share with guests. Also a nice dram in terms of price!
Another Traveller's Exclusive from Highland distillery Pulteney. This time, a 13-year-old edition, matured in bourbon and sherry casks. The single malt whisky is bottled at 43% in 1 liter bottles. A fine whisky for a great price!
The Old Pulteney 15 is a core bottling of this Highland distillery. And rightly so: it is a beautiful, characterful, yet mild single malt whisky that double-matured on American and Spanish oak. Nose, taste and finish follow each other harmoniously. (46%)
The Maritime Malt says the label of the single malt whisky from the Pulteney Distillery. You can indeed detect a hint of sea air in this 16-year-old Old Pulteney. It matured in American and Spanish oak casks, and you can taste that too. (46%)
New make spirit from Highland distillery Pulteney matured for 20 years in one of bottler Gordon & MacPhail's own sherry casks, after which it was bottled as Old Pulteney single malt whisky in G&M's well-known Connoisseurs Choice series at 56.9% ABV.
The Pulteney Distillery in the Highlands releases many bottlings of their Old Pulteney single malt whisky; you don't see independent bottlings very often. But this is one: a 16-year-old malt matured in a bourbon barrel, bottled at 55.3% cask strength.
You don't often come across Highland Distillery Pulteney's single malt whisky as an independent bottling, but here we have one. From Decadent Drinks. It's an Old Pulteney, matured for 11 years in a first-fill bourbon cask, bottled at 53% ABV.
There is Caol Ila single malt whisky in this blended malt, and for example Clynelish, Linkwood and Benrinnes. The whisky matured in bourbon, oloroso and French oak casks. This results in a fruity, nicely balanced dram: the Orchard House from Compass Box.
That Orkney 18 (HP) stands for an 18-year-old Highland Park will come as no surprise, and that this bottling from Signatory Vintage has a nice score is certainly no surprise either. The HP single malt whisky matured in a 1st-fill Oloroso cask. (55.0%)
This Orkney (HP) from Signatory is, of course, a Highland Park single malt whisky. And we're making no secret of the fact that we're offering this 14-year-old malt, finished in first-fill Amontillado casks, at a fantastic price! (57.1% = 100 proof)
By putting HP in brackets on the label after 'Orkney 18', bottler Signatory Vintage gives a clear hint from which distillery this single malt whisky comes. The whisky from the Orkneys matured for 18 years in a 1st-fill Oloroso sherry cask. (55.8%)
