A finish in sherry casks is very normal for whisky, but a finish in fino sherry casks is not very common. This 8-year-old Arran single malt whisky has matured in fino casks for the last nine months. It was bottled in 2007 in limited edition. (50%)
No, this is not bourbon, but a closely related Tennessee Straight Whiskey. The difference is in extra carbon filtering. This more than 3-year-old Daddy Rack was made according to an old recipe by a team of experienced distillers and cellarmasters. (57.8%)
This Caol Ila single malt whisky bottled by Van Wees is 7 years old. The medium-peated Islay malt matured in two bourbon casks. The Ultimate label is known for its reasonable prices, and that is also reflected in this release. (bottled at 46%)
Glenmorangie was one of the first distilleries to experiment with non-standard cask ageing. In 2017, they released this Spìos bottling as a Private Edition, a single malt whisky that had matured in casks that previously contained rye whisky. (46%)
Caramelised apple and wood smoke. According to the label, these are the characteristic flavors of this 18-year-old single malt whisky from the Loch Lomond Distillery. Distilled in the unique Loch Lomond stills and matured in American oak casks. (46% ABV)
Sherried, nutty, unpeated, says the label of this Bunnahabhain bottling. The single malt whisky was released as Small Batch Distilled, Cask Strength Edition 2023. The Bunna matured for 12 years in sherry casks and was bottled at a hefty 60.1%.
Rare Irish Whiskey is the name of the series in which this Bushmill's single malt whiskey was released. This Irish single malt matured in bourbon, port and oloroso sherry casks for a total of 16 years before being bottled at 40% strength in 2021.
There has been a Glendronach Distillery in Devon, Speyside, for almost two centuries. Nowadays, it is best known for its sherried single malt whisky. This bottling from 2020 is something different: the whisky is finished in select port casks! (46%)
The Aberlour Distillery is best known for its sherried whisky. This bottling proves that this is justly so. The 18-year-old single malt whisky matured in casks of both American and European oak and is finished in PX and Oloroso casks. (43% ABV)
We don't know how long this 8th batch of single malt whisky in Tamdhu's Batch Strength series aged on sherry casks. It seems to be a fairly young dram, uncomplicated and punchy. However, the sherry notes are clearly present. Bottled at 55.8% cask strength
If you want to try a sherried Speysider, this Glentauchers single malt whisky bottled by Van Wees is definitely an option, and not just because of the affordable price! The whisky matured for 11 years in two 2nd-fill Oloroso sherry casks. (46%)
If you want to discover why Glenlossie single malt whisky is so well-suited to blends like Haig and Johnnie Walker, this reasonably priced cask Van Wees bottling sure is an option. The single malt whisky matured for 10 years in a bourbon cask. (46%)
Glendullan single malt whisky is relatively unknown, except in America where it is marketed as Singleton of Glendullan. Here is a bottling from Van Wees in their The Ultimate series. The malt matured for 13 years in a bourbon cask and was bottled at 46%.
Most bottlings of Aultmore single malt whisky come from independent bottlers. That also applies to this release. Van Wees bottled this 11-year-old, bourbon-cask-aged Speysider in the The Ultimate series at 46%. For a nice price.
To be bottled at a strength of 62.7% after 16 years of maturing, well, as a single malt whisky, that must have been in quite a special cask. And that is what we see with this Glenrothes that matured in a refill sherry cask. Stewed fruit, morellos, almond.
The A'bunadh series from the Aberlour Distillery is a classic when it comes to sherried single malt whisky with its distinctive reddish-brown colour. But this is an A'bunadh Alba (Latin 'alba' = white). No sherry at all, but aged in bourbon casks! 60.1%
Gordon & MacPhail is the only bottler allowed to place original distillery labels on its bottlings. This happens in the Licensed Bottling series, for example with this approximately 15-year-old Ardmore single malt bottling. The whisky matured in G&M casks
The modern Allt-á-Bhainne Distillery produces malt whisky for blends such as Chivas Regal. Almost all single malt bottlings of their whisky are released by third parties. An excellent example of this is this 26-year-old, bourbon-matured edition. (50.1%)
A pretty special bottling, which the Taiwanese The Whisky Blues presents here. It is a Bowmore single malt whisky. You don't often see this as a third-party bottling. The medium-peated Islay malt aged in a sherry cask for 26 years and is bottled at 50.1%.
Taiwanese Whisky AGE has not been around as a bottler for very long yet but has already built up a good name. One of their latest bottlings is this Glenrothes single malt whisky. The Speysider matured in a bourbon cask for 23 years and is bottled at 55.1%
Another Traveller's Exclusive from Highland distillery Pulteney. This time, a 13-year-old edition, matured in bourbon and sherry casks. The single malt whisky is bottled at 43% in 1 liter bottles. A fine whisky for a great price!
Like all Glenfarclas The Family Casks bottlings, this one also belongs to the top of sherried single malt whisky. It matured for about 33 years in a select sherry cask, from which the malt was bottled in 602 bottles in 2022 at a cask strength of 52.3%.
An interesting Writers' Tears edition is this Inniskillin Ice Wine Cask. It is a blend of Irish pot still and single malt whiskey (not something you see often) finished in a cask that previously held a Canadian sweet wine (we didn't see that before). 46%
A special edition of this classic Islay single malt whisky. The 10-year-old Laphroaig is finished in Oloroso casks, creating an intriguing combination of the well-known maritime and peat smoke notes and the complex sweet sherry notes. (48%)
