The Imperial Distillery, built in Speyside in 1897, closed a century later, in 1998. Of course, independent bottlings of the single malt whisky have continued to appear since then, but fewer and fewer. This one is from 2013. (17y, bourbon matured, 51.2%)
Cameronbridge, known for its 'velvet' single grain whisky, is one of Scotland's largest distilleries. This Signatory Vintage release matured for 16 years in a combination of Oloroso casks, resulting in a beautifully balanced, sherried dram. (57.1%)
In their very affordable 100 Proof series, Signatory Vintage also releases single grain whiskies. Here, for example, is a 15-year-old North British, a Lowlands grain. The whisky matured in first- and second-fill Oloroso and bourbon casks. (57.1%)
Speysider Knockando's single malt whisky isn't often seen as an independent bottling, but here is another one again, released in Signatory Vintage's popular Cask Strength Collection. A 16-year-old, PX-finished, complex and full-bodied dram. (51.6%)
A very affordable Glen Spey that will certainly appeal to lovers of sherry matured whisky! The 9-year-old Speyside single malt whisky matured in a first-fill Oloroso cask. Chocolate, dark fruit, figs, raisins, leather, cinnamon and nutmeg. (57.1% ABV)
The Starward Distillery in Melbourne makes pleasantly drinkable, not too complex single malt whisky, whisky to share with friends or to mix in cocktails. This Nova is one of those. The young malt matured in various types of Australian red wine barrels.
This Allegro part of Chichibu's Symphony Edition features smoky tones from the peated ex-bourbon cask the blend was matured in. Other tones in this harmonious part are tropical fruits, manuka honey, peppered roast beef and pineapple. (60% cask strength)
Chichibu founder and master blender Ichiro Akuto composed this symphony of malt and grain whiskies. It is a harmony of flavours and aromas. The blend matured in a 1st-fill sherry cask and is bottled at a strength of 59.2%. An enjoyable complex blend.
The Original is a standard bottling from the Highland distillery Glenmorangie. Unlike many other editions of this brand, the single malt whisky matured in only one type of cask: bourbon casks. An everyday dram for a nice price! (12 year old, at 40%)
This Glenallachie bottling matured in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks over a period of 15 years, which produced a complex palette of flavours and aromas. A beautifully sherried, highly drinkable single malt whisky at a reasonable price. (46%)
In a limited edition, the Irish Bushmills Distillery released this single malt whisky in 2020 in The Causeway Selection series. The triple distilled malt is finished in French Banyuls wine casks and bottled at a cask strength of 53,2%.
With this 21 Year Old November 2019 Release, Orkney distillery Highland Park introduced in 2019 another exceptional bottling of its single malt whisky. The malt matured for two decades in a select combination of sherry and bourbon casks. (46%)
This is the second edition in the series A Night on Earth in Scotland from the famous Macallan Distillery in The Speyside. The single malt whisky matured in bourbon and sherry casks, in American and European oak casks. The malt was bottled in 2022 at 43%.
This is the 5th release in the Edition Series from the famous Speyside distillery Macallan. The single malt whisky matured in different casks, which gave it a purple colour. It was bottled at a strength of 48.5%%
At the end of 2021, this single-cask Japanese blended whisky was bottled in an edition of 186 bottles. A blend of Ichiro's malt and grain whisky. The whisky is finished on a bourbon cask, and it is bottled at a solid 60.0% ABV.
And yet another strongly sherried Edradour single malt whisky from bottler Van Wees. And again in their Cask Strength series. This malt from the Southern Highlands aged for 9 years in an active sherry cask and is bottled at 59.2%. For the 'sherry lover’!
The Duvel Moortgat Brewery is known for its beer, but sometimes, it also distils whisky. This Celebration Bottle was released in 2023. The 10-year-old, bourbon and sherry-aged, marsala-finished single malt whisky was bottled in this nice bottle at 40%.
The High West Distillery started in 2006 in Utah as a small distiller. In the meantime, it has grown into a producer of bourbon, rye and even oat whiskey. And this bottling is a blend of straight bourbon whiskeys, also quite special! Bottled at 46%.
A new release from the young and promising Ardnamurchan Distillery in the West Highlands. This single malt whisky is 43% peated and 57% unpeated. The blend first matured in ex-bourbon casks and was then finished in first-fill Madeira casks. (52% ABV)
Rossville Union is the brand under which the Ross & Squibb Distillery in Indiana, US, releases rye whisky. They do this according to a traditional recipe and process. This Master Crafted edition is 5 years old and aged in freshly charred oak casks. (47%)
The Akashi Meïsei Deluxe is a Japanese blended whisky from the Eigashima Shuzo Distillery. It is a mix of 50% malt and 50% grain whisky that first matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in sherry casks. A mild whisky with a subtle sherry influence. 50%
In the very friendly priced 100 Proof series from bottler Signatory Vintage, this 12-year-old Glenlossie single malt whisky was released. The malt from the one-and-a-half-century-old Speyside distillery matured in 1st-fill oloroso and bourbon casks. 57.1%
'From Pitlochry to the world' is the motto of bottler Signatory Vintage. The world can be happy with this SV bottling: It is a 10-year-old Royal Brackla single malt whisky that is finished in a 1st-fill Pedro Ximénez cask and bottled at 48.2% ABV.
Eighty years ago, the Glenallachie Distillery was built in the Speyside, but it wasn’t until 2018 that their first core bottlings appeared. Independent bottlings of the single malt appeared earlier and still do, like this one from Cadenhead. (10y, 46%)
