Edradour is one of the smallest classic Scotch whisky distilleries. By default, they distill unpeated single malt whisky, but under the Ballechin brand they make a firmly peated dram. This one is 15 years old, matured in bourbon and sherry casks. (58.9%)
This is the first edition of the new Malting Season series from Speyside Distillery BenRiach. This single malt whisky is produced in the traditional way, also using the historic malt floor. It matured in bourbon and virgin oak casks. Bottled at 47,8%.
From the Richly Matured series, this 15-year-old Knockando aged in bourbon and sherry casks. A fairly complex malt with, besides the floral and fruity Speyside notes, sherry influences such as cinnamon, chocolate and apple sauce. Bottled at 43%.
Kentucky Owl is a more exclusive bourbon, highly valued on average in, for example, the Whiskybase. Why this Confiscated in 1916 is so called is not immediately clear, but with notes such as gardenia, banana bread, grapes and sourdough, it is special.
If you are looking for a fine, complex bourbon for a reasonable price, then this Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond is an option! With a mash recipe of 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% barley malt and a minimum maturation of 4 years, this is a classic bourbon whiskey
Following the first batch in 2020, the Isle of Skye's Torabhaig Distillery releases a large batch of their peated, traditionally distilled single malt whisky in 2021. A young whisky of course, but already quite complex. Matured in bourbon casks. (46%)
Smokey Virgin, that is The English Whisky Company calls this single malt whisky that came out in their Small Batch Release series. And that is not for nothing. The whisky matured for 6 years in new (virgin) oak casks treated with peat smoke. (46%)
In December 2006, the first casks were filled with spirit from St George's Distillery in Roudham, England. The English Whisky Company was launched. One of their hundreds of bottlings is this Single Cask Release. Aged for 10 years in a bourbon cask (58,1%)
A limited edition bottling, that's the 2021 edition of this Bunnahabhain single malt whisky. It is 12 years old and matured in both sherry and bourbon casks. This resulted in a complex palette of dried fruit, vanilla, roasted nuts and maritime notes.
Dufftown single malt whisky is known for bottlings under the Singleton brand (Singleton or Dufftown). But third parties also release Dufftown bottlings, like this one from Berry Bros & Rudd. The 12-year-old whisky is finished in a PX sherry cask. (54.9%)
The German bottler Whisky-Fässle regularly manages to select very fine casks. And this bottling is a hit again. It is a 32 year old Tormore single malt whisky. The slightly peated Speyside-malt matured in a bourbon cask and was bottled at 44.1%.
A Japanese single malt whisky aged in bourbon casks in the warehouse of the Tsunuki Distillery, distilled by the Mars Distillery and released in the Komagatake series. A dram with notes of barley, vanilla and oak and a hint of smoke. (54%)
According to some, this Smokehead Islay single malt whisky is young Caol Ila finished in Ardbeg casks. Perhaps. In any case, this is a beautiful, uncomplicated and pleasantly drinkable dram for the smoky whisky lover. At 43%.
With only 3 men in the production, Edradour is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. This 10-year-old Distillery Edition with its hints of honey, heather and citrus is a good example of their single malt. Bottled at 40%.
Under the well-known The Maltman label, Meadowside Blending releases single cask bottlings. We now have a Caol Ila bottling from them in the shop. The Islay single malt whisky matured for 11 years in a fino sherry cask that yielded 493 bottles at 54.4%.
Make a mix of single malt whiskies from different Scottish distilleries, and you have a blended malt scotch whisky. And that's exactly what Chapter 7 has done for this bottling released in the Prologue series. For a nice price and in a 750 ml bottle. (49%
The Arran Distillery is also doing 'finishing' these days. This bottling, for example, is finished in port casks and that gives the single malt whisky notes of hazelnut, strawberry jam and mandarin oranges. All well in balance with the Arran profile. 50%
The well-known 10-year-old standard bottling from the Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye has been given a new look. Label and box express the maritime character of this malt, which further stands out with notes like sweet smoke, peat and pepper.
Elements of Islay is Elixir Distillers' highly regarded Islay single malt line of bottlings with names like physical elements. For example, there is a whisky Lp11. That stands for the 11th edition of a Laphroaig malt. Now in a sample set of 5 bottles.
Douglas Laing is known for its blended malt whiskies. Their motto is: 'If a single malt is a violin, then a blended malt is an entire orchestra!'. Well-known are, for example, their Big Peat-blended Islay malts. This is also included in this sample set.
Signatory Vintage previously released a similar bottling: a 20-year-old Alt-à-Bhainne single malt whisky that matured for 6 months in a 'fresh' sherry cask. That edition had a good score. This new edition was finished on sherry for even 8 months. (52.4%)
With this Single Malt, the young Irish Dingle Whiskey Distillery launches its first standard edition. The single malt whisky, three times distilled, aged 6 to 7 years on average, matured in bourbon (39%) and PX sherry casks (61%) and was bottled at 46.3%.
A South African single malt whisky, we don't have that often in the shop! The Three Ships whisky comes from the James Sedgewick Distillery. And this 12 year old edition is the first bottling in the Master Distiller's Private Collection series. At 46.3%.
