Cnoc na Moine, the Heath Hill, is the title of Chapter 3 in the Legacy Series of the Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, subtitled Smoke & Brine. A peated single malt whisky, yes! It matured in cask types such as bourbon, PX and oloroso. (46%)
Under the brand The Hearach, the young, artisanal The Isle of Harris Distillery on the Scottish island of the same name distils single malt whisky. This is Batch 10, their second bottling in 2024. The whisky aged in various bourbon and sherry casks. (46%)
This Ledaig, the peated single malt version from the Tobermory Distillery on the Scottish island of Mull, is an exquisite blend of three classic Ledaig whiskies: Bourbon, Port and Wine. A whisky with a rich and complex taste palette and bottled at 53.8%.
Inchfad is the name for heavily peated Inchmurrin single malt whisky, a malt from the stills of the Loch Lomond Distillery. German bottler Rolf Caspar bottled a 7-year-old Inchfad that matured in a Trinidad rum barrel at cask strength (58.5%).
If you like strong whisky, then this Gouden Carolus single malt, with its 67.5%, is for you! The bottle is a single cask bottling by the Belgian De Molenberg distillery for the 2020 Ghent whisky festival. It was matured in a beer and then a bourbon cask.
Batch #1 of a 15-year-old blended whisky from the Irish Hinch Distillery. It is a mix of a malt that matured in bourbon and 1 year in oloroso casks from 2003, with a grain whisky that matured for 13 years in bourbon and 2 years in Oloroso casks. 46%
The Miltonduff Distillery has been in the Speyside for nearly two centuries now. The distillery doesn't bottle much of its single malt whisky itself, but luckily, there are others who do. This release is 12 years old and aged in a bourbon cask. (46%)
By putting HP in brackets on the label after 'Orkney 18', bottler Signatory Vintage gives a clear hint from which distillery this single malt whisky comes. The whisky from the Orkneys matured for 18 years in a 1st-fill Oloroso sherry cask. (55.8%)
Glenmorangie is one of the pioneers of whisky finishing. This bottle is an excellent example of this: we estimate that it was bottled sometime in the 1990s, as the label also indicates. The single malt whisky is finished in sherry casks. (43%)
You do not often come across a Ben Nevis single malt whisky that is finished in a rum cask, but if you're curious about it, this bottling from Duncan Taylor is a great option! The whisky is 11 years old and was released in the Single Cask series. (53.4%)
The Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, produces rye whisky in addition to bourbon. This Rossville Union is an excellent example of that. Traditionally produced, it aged for 7 years in charred American oak casks, and bottled at 58.5%.
With the George Remus Straight Bourbon Whiskey, the Ross & Squibb Distillery in Indiana goes back to the years of Prohibition in the US when whisky was distilled illegally. This bourbon has a sweet-but-distinctive rye flavour. (47% - 94 proof)
Knob Creek Rye whiskey is distilled at the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky in the pre-Prohibition style. Also, a high-end whiskey, this 7-year-old Kentucky Straight Rye. This Knob Creek is bottled at 50% ABV or 100º proof.
You don't often come across whiskies like this! This Jefferson's Ocean is a sea-aged blend of bourbon whiskies. The whisky sloshing in the casks and the temperature differences during the journey ensured a strong cask influence and rapid maturation. (45%)
This is a 12-year-old Balvenie single malt whisky from the Single Barrel series. The whiskies from this series have matured in first-fill bourbon casks, so in casks that have been used one time before: for maturing bourbon. The whisky is bottled at 47,8%.
This Ben Nevis single malt whisky has been released in the new and affordable 100 Proof series from Signatory Vintage. Not just any Ben Nevis, but a heavily peated one! The malt matured for 4 years in a refill Oloroso cask. Bottled at 57.1% (=100 Proof).
You don't often come across a blended grain whisky. And certainly not one like this Hedonism from Compass Box. The three grains Cameronbridge, Girvan and Port Dundas together form a creamy, soft blend, very pleasant to drink. (43%)
A finish in sherry casks is very normal for whisky, but a finish in fino sherry casks is not very common. This 8-year-old Arran single malt whisky has matured in fino casks for the last nine months. It was bottled in 2007 in limited edition. (50%)
This is a bottle of batch #2 of Benromach 2014 single malt whisky in the Cask Strength series. The Speysider matured for 9 years in sherry and bourbon casks. A full dram with characteristic notes of stewed fruit, citrus and a hint of smoke (59.7%)
Under the Longrow brand, the Springbank distillery releases a peated malt. Smoke, peat, and malt are clearly present, in addition to salt, citrus and, for example, grass. And there is the influence of the bourbon casks on which this malt matured. (46%)
The Bunnahabhain Distillery on Islay is one of the few producers on that island that does not deliver peated single malt whisky by default. But under the name Staoisha, they can do it! See this 8-year-old peated malt that matured in a bourbon cask. (46%)
This Caol Ila single malt whisky bottled by Van Wees is 7 years old. The medium-peated Islay malt matured in two bourbon casks. The Ultimate label is known for its reasonable prices, and that is also reflected in this release. (bottled at 46%)
Glenmorangie was one of the first distilleries to experiment with non-standard cask ageing. In 2017, they released this Spìos bottling as a Private Edition, a single malt whisky that had matured in casks that previously contained rye whisky. (46%)
Near the Isle of Skye is the small Raasay with its beautiful nature. Since 2017, the artisanal Raasay Distillery has been there. The single malt whisky in this bottling is the marriage of the contents of 2 casks. Subtle peat with maritime and sweet notes.
