Single malt whisky is a mixture of malt whisky from casks of the same distillery. Malt whisky is made from barley malt and distilled in pot stills, and has matured for at least 3 years in oak barrels. This whisky usually has a for the distillery characteristic flavor. Is considered the classic whisky.
For those who want to get acquainted with the single malt whisky from The Isle of Arran Distillery, or with single malt whisky in general, this is a nice 'entry-level bottle'. The whisky matured in American oak casks and is bottled at a friendly strength.
An new edition edition by the Arran distillery of their peated single malt whisky Machrie Moor. This whisky, which is bottled at 46%, is not too heavily peated and therefore remains a pleasantly drinkable dram, with the Arran profile clearly recognizable.
Machrie Moor is the brand under which Arran releases peated malt. And within this brand there are the Cask Strength bottlings in a limited edition. The Machrie Moor's have their own character, different from the peated Islay's for example.

In 2013, the Arran Distillery released a bottling called Millennium Casks. The spirit for this single malt whisky was vatted on December 31, 1999 and January 1, 2000 (35 bourbon and 10 sherry casks). After 13 years this resulted in 7800 bottles at 53.5%.
The Arran Distillery is also doing 'finishing' these days. This bottling, for example, is finished in port casks and that gives the single malt whisky notes of hazelnut, strawberry jam and mandarin oranges. All well in balance with the Arran profile. 50%

The Devil's Punch Bowl bottlings from the Arran Distillery have near-legendary status. This 3rd Punch Bowl edition, from 2014, was just like the others 6,660 bottles in size. Rich, exotic, powerful, lots of chocolate and cocoa are some of the keywords.
In 2019, Lochranza Castle was released, the second edition in the Explorers Series from the Arran Distillery on the Isle of Arran. This Lochranza Castle is a 21-year-old single malt whisky matured in sherry casks and finished in Amontillado casks. (47.2%)
Auchentoshan is one of the few Scottish distilleries that uses triple distillation. This produces a light, floral-fruity whisky. As is the case with this 12-year-old standard bottling at 40%. A beautiful, ripe Lowland malt. A good entry-level whisky!
You don’t see them like this very often anymore! In 2009, Lowland distillery Auchentoshan released a 30-year-old edition of their triple-distilled single malt whisky. The spirit was vatted in 1978. It is a complex, balanced and very drinkable dram. 53,4%

This bottling at 43% from the core range of Auchentoshan ripened in bourbon, oloroso and PX casks, and combines the light, floral-fruity character of this Lowland malt with the dark fruit, the spices and the chocolate of the sherry casks.
This Auchroisk is a Diageo Special Release from 2010 with a classic label. It is a Special Release indeed, because 20-year-old cask strength bottlings of the Speyside single malt whisky are not very common. Complex, sweet and very aromatic. (58.1%)
This Auchroisk single malt whisky matured for 10 years in an ex-bourbon cask, a hogshead, before bottler Van Wees bottled it in 2023 at 46%. Released in The Ultimate series for a very favourable price, as we have come to expect from this bottler.
This is one of the 7 first bottlings of Dutch bottler Roger's Whisky Company. An Aultmore single malt whisky that matured for 12 years in a bourbon cask. In addition to the fancyful label, the robust cask strength of this 63.5% bottling is also striking.
Most bottlings of Aultmore single malt whisky come from independent bottlers. That also applies to this release. Van Wees bottled this 11-year-old, bourbon-cask-aged Speysider in the The Ultimate series at 46%. For a nice price.

This Balblair single malt whisky aged for 15 years in bourbon and sherry casks. In its role as one of the core bottlings of the Highland distillery, it is nicely balanced between light and exotic fruit, with notes of chocolate, raisins and toffee. (46%)
Under the name Ballechin, the Highland distillery Edradour presents a peaty malt. This 10-year-old has a strong peat and smoke flavor and an extensive palette of cask influences due to maturation on both bourbon and sherry casks. A nice whisky at 46%.
A new label design adorns this Ballechin bottling. Ballechin is the heavily peated version of Edradour's single malt whisky. This Ballechin is released in the Cask Strength Edition series. It is 13 years old and matured in bourbon and sherry casks. 54.9%
Edradour is one of the smallest classic Scotch whisky distilleries. By default, they distill unpeated single malt whisky, but under the Ballechin brand they make a firmly peated dram. This one is 15 years old, matured in bourbon and sherry casks. (58.9%)
