The Douglas Laing company started blending malt whisky in 1948. And since 1998, this Glasgow-based family business also releases single cask bottlings. With great success. Famous are their Old Malt Cask, Old Paricular, and Provenance series.
In addition, they still release blended malts. The popular Big Peat bottlings (Islay malts) and the Region Malts series. This under the motto: 'If a single malt is a violin, then a blended malt is an entire orchestra!'. All in all, Douglas Laing now has more than 5000 bottlings to his name.
The beautiful label of this The Cauldrons bottling from Douglas Laing symbolises the solar eclipse. This is a blend of Campbeltown single malt whiskies, finished in orange wine casks (wine from white grapes that matured with their skins). (52.9% ABV)
In anticipation of the winter season, we present this Big Peat Winter Edition, a blended malt, finished in warming Madeira casks. Douglas Laing's Big Peat bottlings are always blends of peated Islay single malt whiskies. So, yes, 'Big Peat'. (53.6%)
A true Laphroaig, this 12-year-old single malt. Medicinal notes juxtapose sweet, salty, and tarry notes with ash and smoked barley. This Islay malt was bottled by Douglas Laing in 2025 at 48.4% ABV after having matured in a refill bourbon cask.
Early this century, Douglas Laing bottled this Glenrothes single malt whisky in the Old Malt Cask series. The malt went into the cask in 1983 and after 18 years, it was bottled at 50% in 288 bottles. Of those, this is probably the only one still available
The whiskies in Douglas Laing's Old Particular series are indeed well-aged and often exceptional. This Bunnahabhain is no exception: the single malt matured for 24 years in a sherry cask and is truly an old-school dram, complex and drinkable. (49.1%)
Bottler Douglas Laing has been in business since 1948 and has built a rock-solid reputation with over 5,300 bottlings. One of those thousands of bottlings was this 11-year-old, bourbon-cask-matured Ben Nevis single malt whisky in 2009.
This 12-year-old Linkwood is released as part of Douglas Laing's renowned Old Particular series. The Speyside single malt whisky, matured in a refill bourbon cask, features a rich palette of notes, like honeysuckle, vanilla, peach, and marzipan. (48.4%)
Douglas Laing's Old Particular series is well-known among whisky enthusiasts. This Glen Moray single malt was released in this series after 15 years of bourbon cask maturation. Buttery, spicy, tangerine and custard are just some of its notes. (48.4%)
The Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull distilled the spirit for this single malt whisky in 2008, which, 15 years later, after maturing in a bourbon cask, was bottled by Douglas Laing in the Old Particular series. A dram like warm fruit pastry. 48.4%
Bottler Douglas Laing's Old Malt Cask series is highly regarded. That's thanks to bottlings like this one. It is an 18 year old Littlemill single malt whisky that matured in a bourbon cask: sweet malt, citrus, toffee, trifle, vanilla and caramel. (50%)
You can't go wrong with a bottle from Douglas Laing's Old Particular series, and that certainly applies to this 18-year-old, sherry-matured Blair Athol single malt whisky. Complex, with notes of dark fruit, plums, black wine gums and raisins. (48.4%)
To the regret of many whisky lovers, the Caperdonich Distillery closed in 2002. Ten years later, this Director's Cut bottling from Douglas Laing was released: a 30 (!) year old, refill sherry cask-matured Caperdonich single malt. (50.9%, score: 90.1)
Douglas Laing is known for its blended malt whiskies. Their motto is: 'If a single malt is a violin, then a blended malt is an entire orchestra!'. Well-known are, for example, their Big Peat-blended Islay malts. This is also included in this tasting kit.
