One of the 5 official Scottish whisky regions. Until the 19th century, mainly illegal whisky distilleries were located in this large area. Now there are about 30 distilleries that often have their own character. In the Highlands lies the Speyside which with its 50 distilleries is officially a region of its own. The Highlands also officially include a number of islands that informally form the Islands region.
The 29th chapter of Decadent Drinks' Whiskyland is once again very fascinating! It concerns a Glenturret single malt whisky that matured for 35 (!) years in a refill bourbon cask and was bottled at a cask strength of 41.5%. A dreamy dram, according to DD.
Bottler James Eadie presents a 12-year-old Clynelish single malt whisky here at a great price. The Clynelish Distillery originated over two centuries ago; a true classic. This bottling matured for 12 years in a re-charred bourbon cask. (51.8% ABV)
Tullibardine, founded in 1949, has operated at full capacity as a single malt producer only since 2008. From that year onwards, they also focused more on finishing whisky. This 32-year-old bottling matured in 'bourbon & madeira' casks. Finishing? (47.1%)
The Wolfburn Small Batch Release 416 is a single malt whisky that matured for 10 years in authentic ruby port casks. This resulted in a whisky with an intense flavour profile: dried fruit, raisins, sea salt, caramel, dates, figs and mild smoke. (46%)
Signatory Vintage releases here in its 100 Proof series a relatively young Ben Nevis single malt whisky, matured in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 57.1%. It is a special Ben Nevis bottling, because it is heavily peated! And at a great price too!
In 2013, the distillery produced its first spirit. By now, Wolfburn is an established name in the whisky world. This is a bottling of their single malt whisky that matured for 8 years in 'quarter' casks (more intense cask influence). Lightly smoky. (46%)
In 2013, we from Whiskybase selected this Glendronach. The Highland single malt matured for 11 years in an Oloroso sherry cask and was bottled for us at cask strength (57.2%). A young, yet full and powerful dram with the distinct Glendronach profile.

Just over ten years ago, this Ben Nevis single malt whisky appeared in the Nose Art series by bottler Whisky-Doris. The classic Highlander aged for 13 years in a bourbon cask before being bottled at 52.6% cask strength. It evokes an 'old school' feeling.
This Turntable blend was created in collaboration with the Indian Amrut. Consequently, the blend makes up 36% of a bourbon-aged Amrut single malt. Additionally, there is a Benriach malt (25%), a Tamdhu malt (23%), and Cameronbridge grain (16%). (53% ABV)

'Handmade in Scotland's little gem,' says the label, and that's how we know it's an Edradour single malt whisky. The whisky for this Small Batch edition matured for 10 years in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and was bottled at 46% ABV, for a great price.
This Dalmore single malt whisky matured for 17 years in various, sometimes very rare, casks. To name just a few: 30-year-old Matusalem Oloroso and Amoroso and Apostoles sherry casks, but also ex-bourbon casks. A refined, complex flavour profile! (42%)
Chorlton Whisky is a Manchester-based bottler, founded in 2016. Chorlton bottlings generally receive high ratings. This Glen Garioch could well be one of them. The single malt matured for 13 years in a bourbon cask. For a nice price! (50.2% ABV)
We managed to get our hands on a bottle of exemplary Glendronach single malt from a single cask bottling from 2011. The whisky aged for 21 years in a PX sherry cask and is bottled at 54.1%. If you are looking for a perfectly sherried dram, look no further
This Ardmore, the lightly peated Highland single malt, matured for 12 years in casks that previously held heavily peated Islay malt. This gives the whisky varied smoky and ash notes. There are also notes of marzipan, sugar, and honey-roasted ham. (45%)
In 2015, this bottle was filled by hand by a visitor to the Glendronach Distillery. The cask from which it was filled contained a perfectly sherried single malt whisky over 20 years old. An exemplary Glendronach at 58.1% cask strength. (score: 91 points)
In 2025, the Belgian Brachadair bottled this single malt whisky from the more than two-century-old Royal Brackla Distillery that became a purveyor to the Royal Court in 1835. The Highland malt matured for 15 years in a tawny port barrique. (46.1% ABV)
This is already the seventh batch of Edradour's heavily sherried, 12-year-old single malt whisky bottled at cask strength. In this series, the Highland whisky matures in 1st- and 2nd-fill Oloroso sherry casks. This batch is bottled at a robust 59.0% ABV!
'Kittenish' is printed on the label of this bottling, undoubtedly a hint as to which Highland single malt it is (Clynelish, we'll reveal). The whisky matured for 25 years in an ex-Caol Ila cask, so expect a bit of peat smoke. Bottled at 52.8% ABV.
A port cask matured Ben Nevis from 1990. Giving this the faint red hue. First matured for 12 years in sherry casks. After that matured for 15 years in a port pipe.
This is already the 17th release from the Scottish bottler Saltire Rare Malt, which started in 2024. It is a single-cask bottling of Royal Brackla single malt whisky. The Highland malt matured for 16 years in a refill bourbon cask and is bottled at 50.7%.
The Glendronach distillery is best known for its sherryed single malts. This 2016 bottling also makes it clear why. The whisky matured for 20 years in a select Pedro Ximénez sherry cask and is bottled at 54.6% cask strength. It scores well over 89 points!
