One of the 5 official Scottish whisky regions. Until the 19th century, mainly illegal whisky distilleries were located in this large area. Now there are about 30 distilleries that often have their own character. In the Highlands lies the Speyside which with its 50 distilleries is officially a region of its own. The Highlands also officially include a number of islands that informally form the Islands region.
Westport blended malt whisky is actually Glenmorangie single malt whisky with supposedly a teaspoon of an other malt mixed in. This Westport matured for 19 years on a refill sherry cask and 2 years on a 1st-fill sherry cask and was bottled at 53.0%.
Dating back to the early 19th century, the Balmenach distillery released only a handful of bottlings. Therefore, you'll mainly find their single malt whisky as independent bottlings, like this 9-year-old, sherry-matured one from Signatory Vintage. (57.1%)
This Ben Nevis single malt whisky first matured for almost 8 years in a bourbon cask and then for another 5 years in a first-fill sherry cask. You can hardly call that 'finishing' anymore. The Highlander was bottled by Decadent Drinks at 53.0% ABV.
Since 2021, the Keeble Cask Company in Edinburgh has been active as a cask broker and bottler. In 2025, they released this 50-year-old Invergordon single grain whisky. The grain first matured in a refill and then in a first-fill bourbon cask. (46% ABV)

Batch 1 of Ardnamurchan's The Midgie was intended as a one-off. There's a whole mosquito-related story attached to it, but that's beyond the scope of this text. Let's celebrate batch 2, a true summer malt, matured in bourbon, port, and sherry casks! (48%)
The classic Highlander Ben Nevis is finished here in a rather special cask: of the 13 years this single malt whisky matured, the last four were in a Recioto della Valpolicella wine cask. The Alistair Walker Whisky Company bottled it at 58.7% ABV.
The Alistair Walker Company has a knack for finishing whisky. This is evident once again with this Infrequent Flyers bottling, a 10-year-old Glenglassaugh single malt whisky finished in a Sauternes cask and bottled at 58.6% cask strength.
Bottler Douglas Laing has been in business since 1948 and has built a rock-solid reputation with over 5,300 bottlings. One of those thousands of bottlings was this 11-year-old, bourbon-cask-matured Ben Nevis single malt whisky in 2009.
In 2012, the first batch of the Cask Strength series from Highland distillery Glendronach was released. It is known for its sherried single malt whisky, and this bottling certainly contributed to that: it matured in Oloroso and PX casks. Bottled at 54.8%.
The word Glendronach immediately brings to mind a beautifully sherried single malt whisky. But every now and then, Glendronachs don't mature in sherry casks: this 14-year-old edition matured in bourbon casks and is finished in American virgin oak. (46%)
Another interesting finishing experiment from Alistair Walker! This 37-year-old Invergordon single grain whisky has spent the last almost four years maturing in a cask that previously held an American rye whisky. It's certainly intriguing! ( 44.5% ABV)

This relatively young Ardmore bottling has a smokier character than usual for this single malt whisky. This bourbon-matured Malts of Scotland bottling is full-bodied and earthy, yet fruity in notes and aroma. A pleasantly drinkable dram. (51.5% ABV)
